Capability
ISTIH brings together a multidisciplinary approach to managing aid projects with the ability to facilitate international health and other aid projects in related sectors. This Institute collaborates with, and has alliances among governments and non-government organisations (NGOs), Australian and regional institutes and universities, bilateral donors, multilateral agencies, and global foundations, to foster health policy and planning for the betterment of low to middle income countries. With these alliances, ISTIH aims to provide a holistic approach to the provision of services to the aid sector.
The Institute has nodal representation with major regional hospitals / university and medical schools as partners. In the case of Indonesia, this gives ISTIH access to more than 500 Indonesian specialists and nurses, as well as to established under and postgraduate training programs. A substantial number of ISTIH members speak Bahasa, and other language fluencies.
Health training
ISTIH is keen to identify and develop effective education training responses through a primary health care approach to neglected and emerging health needs facing countries in the greater Asia Pacific.
The Institute has access to the services of specialists, doctors, nurses and allied health workers, most with extensive experience in health training, including Indonesia, post-tsunami Aceh and Asian Pacific countries.
Although not exhaustive, major specialisations include:
- Emergency medicine
- Disaster management, preparedness and response
- Infectious & tropical diseases
- Pharmaceutical education and services management
- Nurse and medical education
ISTIH also has skills in assessing needs and, developing and evaluating health
education programs.
Disaster Management in Health
ISTIH is focused on the identification, development and implementation of programs of prevention, care and treatment for diseases afflicting communities.
