Board of Governors
A Board of Governors heads the Institute and is supported by an Executive Management Committee, who are experts in medical education, nurse education, pharmacy, disaster management and other disciplines.
The Board is chaired by Professor Michael V. Henderson and ISTIH’s inaugural Director is Professor Bruce Robinson.

Professor Michael V. Henderson
Chairman, Board of Governors of ISTIH
Chairman: MEDSCI International Healthcare (a not-for-profit healthcare advisory service), the Australian Institute for Radiochemical Engineering (AIRE), the Technology Industry Advisory Council (TIAC).
Prof Henderson is a strong promoter internationally of healthcare, education and research. He has played an integral role in assisting Australian universities to set up ties with South East Asian & global universities in the areas of health, law, agriculture, engineering, skills & training. In addition, he has been pivotal in the creation and development of a number of national/international research institutes, bringing with him strong commercial skills and corporate governance. His network and introductions of professional associates to these institutes has been invaluable in their development and ongoing sustainability. |

Professor Bruce W. S. Robinson MBBS MD FRACP FRCP DTM&H FCCP MRCP
Director and Board Member, ISTIH
His current appointments include: Professor in Medicine at the UWA School of Medicine and Pharmacology, Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital, Consultant Respiratory Physician, Department of Respiratory Medicines, Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital, and Director, National Research Centre for Asbestos-Related Diseases. Also he is Chairman of the State Health Research Advisory Council of the Health Dept of WA and, Chairman of the Asbestos Working Party of the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia (NHMRC).
As part of ISTIH, Professor Robinson has served in a Tsunami Medical Relief Team in Aceh, Indonesia delivering medical care, providing training in respiratory medicine & bronchoscopy skills, and training in disaster preparedness in Banda Aceh, Meulaboh and Jakarta. He has also served in other developing countries including Papua New Guinea. |

Professor Linda Kristjanson RN, BN, MN, PhD
Board Member, ISTIH
Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Development, Curtin University of Technology.
Has received more than $30 million in research grants and has published more than 140 refereed papers and book chapters.
Between 2000 and 2006 she held the position of The Cancer Council WA Chair of Palliative Care. She served as a member of the National Health & Medical Research Council from
2003-2006.
She is a Board member of a number of CRCs. Professor Kristjanson was chosen as the 2002 Australian Telstra Business Woman of the Year for her entrepreneurial work in health and science. |

Professor Ian Puddey MBBS FRACP MD
Board Member, ISTIH
Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Science at the University of Western Australia.
Member of the NH&MRC funded Centre for Training in Clinical Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Research at the Royal Perth Hospital.
He is a member of the High Blood Pressure Research Council of Australia the International Society of Hypertension, the Australian Atherosclerosis Society, the Stroke Society of Australia and a Fellow of the Council for High Blood Pressure Research, American Heart Association. |

Dr Andrew Robertson CSC, MB BS, MPH, MHSM, AFACHSE, AFAIM, FAFPHM, FRACMA
Board Member, ISTIH
Director, Disaster Management, Regulation and Planning within the Public Health Division in WA Health.
Captain in the Royal Australian Naval Reserve and Chair Defence Health Services’ Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBR) Defence and Disaster Medicine Consultative Group.
Has led the Australian Medical Relief team into the Maldives post tsunami, and has subsequently managed WA Health’s response to the 2005 Bali Bombing, its preparations for a potential influenza pandemic and led the WA Health team into Indonesia after the Yogyakarta earthquakes in June 2006. |
