ISTIH Priorities
The International Skills and Training Institute in Health intends to become a leader in Australia, as best practice in the facilitation and execution of aid projects and provision of technical assistance in developing countries.
With the extensive collective experiences of the Board of Governors, across academia and both the public and private sectors, it engages a significant number of health professionals, both locally, nationally and internationally.
ISTIH offers strong leadership skills/experience in developing programs of work across many disciplines and geographical locations.
Skills and Training in International Health:
- To establish and deliver health education training programs, onshore and offshore to communities in need by qualified health professionals.
- Programs are designed as ‘train the trainer’ and allow in-country health professions to provide leadership in the health area.
- Engage in consultancies that assist in the dissemination of technical assistance that help strengthen health systems of developing nations.
In addition to training, skills and technical assistance capacity, ISTIH has project management capabilities:
- Situational analysis and rapid assessment.
- Program identification and design in all health related fields.
- Program management and implementation.
- Training needs analysis and ‘Train the Trainer.’
- Training in health program planning and evaluation.
- Policy design and development.
- Reputation of project development and specialist advice.
Public Awareness
Through public forums, seminars and high level networking, ISTIH provides advice and awareness in response to critical and neglected health issues in neighbouring countries of the Asia Pacific region.
With effective alliances and networking, ISTIH aims to demonstrate successes in partnerships that produce collaborative programs to assist countries and their populations.
Policy Development
ISTIH initiates dialogue with senior policy-makers and is commissioned to contribute to policy review and development in all areas of health skills and training, among those including disaster and emergency management, nursing care and triage.
Bio Medical Engineering
ISTIH has a strong interest in biomedical engineering in the area of equipment specification, commissioning, service & maintenance, design, development, manufacture and management of medical equipment and systems, as well as clinical equipment systems with the need for integrated clinical data, corporate, interface between clinical equipment and IT systems.
Innovative technological approaches leading to sustainability and replication in other locations eg. e-medicine, e-health, smartcard technologies, centralised health records, accessing remote service support for medical equipment utilising contemporary IT technology etc.
